I have chipmunks in my house. What do I do now?

Chipmunks are determined and stubborn creatures that will continuously work to gain entry into attics and other spaces. If you are experiencing a chipmunk problem in your home or place of business, chances are these troublesome critters have already established multiple entry points. Lyons Wildlife Control & Removal Technicians are professionals that will take the necessary steps to not only assess the problem and remove the chipmunks, but also repair any damage and prevent them from re-entering your home.

How do chipmunks get into my home?

Chipmunks live in wooded areas and often build their nests in trees. However, it is typical of these animals to nest in attics or walls of residential homes and buildings by finding small spaces for entry. Attics and walls provide squirrels with a warm and dry place to live. For both chipmunk genders, walls and attics provide year-round wood for gnawing, shelter from the cold, and space to store food.

How do I remove chipmunks from my home?

Chipmunks are typically not dangerous animals; however, they are prone to carrying diseases in their feces. If you are able to identify that these animals are in your home, we recommend that you take a few steps to prepare for our Lyons Wildlife Control & Removal technician’s arrival. You should be able to identify the general area of the home or building that the chipmunks are nesting in, based on the sounds heard inside your home. It may help to walk around the exterior and try to identify the point(s) of entry. This information will assist the technician in assessing the problem. If they have found their way into your home or building they will settle in and make it their home as well; establishing areas to sleep, urinate, and eat. Despite their small size, chipmunks have a tendency to be very destructive, often leaving extensive damage to property. Chipmunk removal and prevention specialists should be contacted as soon as a squirrel issue is identified.

Disease Risks at a Glance

Rabies and plague have been documented in chipmunks but are extremely rare and even more rarely transmitted to humans.
